History

Founded in 1956, the Remsenburg Garden Club (RGC) shortly after joined the Federated Garden Clubs of New York State in 1958. In 2018, the RGC celebrated its 60th anniversary of recognition. Currently, there are over 50 members that live in our hamlet of Remsenburg. Meetings are held monthly, on the second Thursday of each month (see calendar for details).

Remsenburg Garden Club members are active in the upkeep of the window boxes at the Post Office and the wreath hanging at the War Memorial.  The Garden Club hosts speakers throughout the year that enhance our skills in gardening and floral design.

The RGC hosts its annual Wreath Sale Fundraiser started by Connie Bishop in YEAR, when 50 wreaths were sold. This past year, 180 wreaths were sold and donated. The Wreath Sale will be held on December 7th, 2019 at the Remsenburg Academy

One of the co-founders, Miss Elizabeth Remsen, was an active member and supporter. She hosted standard flower shows at the large barn on her Remsen Lane farm. She also hosted the inaugural Summer Luncheon at her summer cottage on the bay at the end of Remsen Lane, a tradition that continues to this day. When Ms. Remsen passed, the luncheon was graciously hosted and underwritten by Rusty Webb at her Main Street home. The Annual Plant Sale was a good fundraiser until the deer arrived and it had to be discontinued.
